What is Xeomin?
Like other neuromodulators, Xeomin uses botulinum toxin type A to temporarily paralyze facial muscles and prevent the formation of dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions). What makes the Xeomin formula unique is that it is double-filtered to remove extra proteins and create a purer botulinum toxin product. With other neuromodulators that contain these proteins, your body can build up immunity over time and you might not see the same great results after repeat treatments.
Who is a Candidate for Xeomin?
Almost all healthy adults who wish to smooth moderate to severe frown lines can benefit from Xeomin. Xeomin is especially helpful for patients who are no longer seeing their desired results with Botox. Good candidates do not have an allergy to botulinum toxin or other severe allergies. It’s also important that patients are not taking blood thinners, do not have an active skin infection, and are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
Xeomin injections are FDA-approved for frown line treatment (glabellar lines). If you wish to treat other types of facial wrinkles, we can recommend a different injectable or combine Xeomin with other injectables and/or fillers.
The Xeomin Procedure
Xeomin treatments are safely performed by a certified nurse injector or nurse practitioner in our comfortable office. The injections are considered painless by most patients but a topical numbing cream to help you feel comfortable. If numbing is desired, you must request it when scheduling your appointment since additional time is added to the procedure. A fine needle will be used to precisely inject the Xeomin into a few different points between the prows. Your entire Xeomin treatment will take 30 minutes or less, making it the perfect lunch-hour treatment.
Xeomin Results
Xeomin cosmetic treatment requires minimal downtime and patients can immediately return to work or other daily activities. We do recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise and sun exposure for 1-2 days since mild swelling and bruising are common around the injection site. As the Xeomin product settles into the skin, facial lines will gradually soften. Results will start to be seen after about five days but can take up to 14 days to fully develop. Xeomin results last an average of 4-6 months.
