What is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved neuromodulator, meaning it temporarily blocks nerve signals and paralyzes the muscles. Like Botox, botulinum toxin type A is used in Dysport to relax the facial muscles and prevent muscle contractions. When the muscles cannot contract or move with your facial expressions, dynamic wrinkles on the overlying skin cannot develop.
Who is a Candidate for Dysport?
Healthy men and women who do not have a botulinum toxin allergy and wish to treat early signs of aging are the ideal candidates for Dysport. Dysport is FDA-approved for the following skin conditions:
Moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines)
Vertical forehead lines
If you wish to treat fine lines and wrinkles on other areas of the face, we can recommend Botox or dermal fillers, depending on the severity of your facial wrinkles and folds.
The Dysport Procedure
Dysport injections are quick and virtually painless. The entire treatment is performed in less than 30 minutes and your injections will be administered by our certified injector. Although most patients do not find the injections to be painful, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment areas to keep you comfortable. Patients must request numbing cream when scheduling their appointment since numbing requires additional time during your appointment.
Dysport Results
Dysport treatments require minimal downtime. We recommend that patients wait 1-2 days to exercise but you can immediately return to work and other daily activities after treatment. Mild swelling and bruising around the injection sites are common but will improve within a few days. Dysport results typically last 3-4 months, but some patients still have noticeable improvement after five months.
